Option #1/ Literary Analysis of WWI .

June 28, 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary is assassinated by Gavrilo Princip in Serbia.
Gavrilo Princip is a radical from Serbia and at the time Serbia was under the control of Austria-Hungary. So he thought it would be a good idea so he assassinated Franz Ferdinand while he visited Serbia.

It is a lonely life,
    this soldier's life,
these bloody deeds and far away eyes.
I miss the clouds
and the sun and the stars,
my eyes are full of tear gas like the skies.
I write these letters in the trenches
with a shaking hand
as the grenades fall from above.
My soul blows away,
the bullets fall,
      I dream, but what's a dream of?
A bomb falls,
my friends cry,
cry their eyes down their cheeks.
We've been here in the trenches
  with death, rats, mud,
a stalemate for months or weeks?
All I know
is what I know
and that's that this war is hell.

This poem is a explaination of the aftermath of Franz Ferdiand’s assassination. The poem is a piece that explains how it is to be in war after just one assassination was made upon an Archduke and it send multiple countries into battle that they are brought into.

Self Reflection: Reconstruction Debate

How did I feel during planning this presentation? Why did I feel this way?
I felt a little nervous about how well our group was going to present the content that we were given. I felt this way, because we were kind of unorganized, but at the very last minute we pulled it together.

How did I feel prior to presenting? Why did I feel this way?
I felt confident that we were going to win, because we had so “Heavy hitters”, or good public speakers in our group. Also, we had good points to bring up in our presentation.

How did I feel while I was presenting? Why did I feel this way?
I felt pretty relaxed once I got up and finally started speaking. But prior to the debate I had the butterflies and was pretty nervous about standing up and presenting in front of the mighty 8th graders.
What did I personally do well?
I thought I did a good job in public speaking, because I was using a serious tone and I felt as though I brought attention.
What did not go as desired in this presentation?

We forgot some of our line and blanked out on the content.
On a scale from 1-10, how well do I think I understood the content? 8 Explain. Some of the content really didn’t make it to home base with me and it made me kind of lost.
How do I think my group members perceived me? Why do I think this?
They perceived me well, because I did well in the public speaking and I opened up the presentation.

How do I think the 8th graders perceived me? Why do I think this?
I think the 8th graders perceive me as a good public speaker, but I was upset with myself because I didn’t give the slides my full potential.

Knowing that I can only control how I act and react, if I could do this presentation again, what would I change about my actions to make it a more ideal experience?
I would make more powerful slides and also give myself more speaking in my introduction.

What are my strengths in groups?
Public speaking, historical facts, and content in a topic.

What areas do I need improvement?
Technology and work ethic.

What is the most important thing I learned about myself? Why is this so important?
I learned that I can accomplish a lot more than what I produce.

Are there any other things that I need to express?
I need to get better at technology and express that more.

Reflective Blog Entry

In the first semester of the DLC7, I feel as though I have improved. In the beginning I had no clue as to how Keynote and IMovie worked, but now I have improved my skills. Still I need improvement on those skills, but I can work on them next semester. Another skill that I have improved is public speaking, before the DLC I wasn't a fan of public speaking, but now I am not as nervous as I use to be in previous years.

The project that I am most proud of is probably the Industrial Revolution teaching topic. I thought that this was a major break through for me, because I gained self confidence in public speaking and this was just an all around great project, because of the people that I worked with, and the way it turned out. Also, I am good at content on history, so this makes things easier in the DLC for me, because my father basically teaches me this information daily. Another thing that I am proud of is the Lincoln-Douglas debate, because we won and I like the people that I worked with. Also, I am proud of my Gettysburg brochure that I made for Mr. Jones' class to use to make a project.

The most challenging thing for me in the DLC is probably learning the technology and getting use to the way this program works. Also, I have bad working habits, in the next semester I need to not procrastinate and get my work done early. Another project that I struggled with is the Thematic Causes of the civil war, because I couldn't get the project time right and it became short.

My favorite moment in the DLC is when all of the boys began to sing Justin Bieber. My expectations for next semester is is to get my work done on time, improve my skill with technology, and make better projects that the class can view.

So far this has been a pretty good year, and i hope it continues the way it has been with a few improvements to it to end 7th grade and continue to 8th grade.
